What Happens Before a Race Car Sculpture Gets Its Final Finish?

It doesn’t look finished — and that is exactly why this stage matters.

Before a racing-inspired sculpture receives its final color, surface finish or display details, there is a stage where almost nothing can hide the quality of the form.

This white-body race car sculpture photographed in our workshop shows that moment.

At this stage, the silhouette, wheel proportions, aerodynamic surfaces, openings and smaller structural details can be viewed without the distraction of paint or graphics. For our fabrication team at Jessie ArtWorks, this is an important point in the process: the object has already moved beyond an image or 3D concept and become a full physical form.

More Than a Car Model

We prefer to describe projects like this as custom automotive sculptures or display sculptures, rather than simply car models.

The difference is in how they are intended to be used.

Depending on the project, a racing car sculpture can become a centerpiece for a showroom, motorsport-themed interior, exhibition, retail window, event installation, museum-style display or private collection.

The final piece does not have to reproduce an existing vehicle. Proportions, body lines, aerodynamic elements, colors and surface treatments can all be developed around a new concept.

From Digital Form to Physical Object

A project may begin with sketches, reference images or 3D files. From there, the form needs to be translated into something that can actually be fabricated.

Typical production can involve:

3D development and proportion adjustment → CNC foam shaping → master model refinement → mold making → fiberglass or composite forming → assembly → surface preparation → painting and finishing.

For large pieces, we also consider internal support, detachable sections, packaging dimensions and international transportation during fabrication—not after the sculpture is finished.

The White Stage Reveals Everything

A glossy final surface can be visually impressive, but the unfinished white stage tells another story.

It reveals whether the proportions feel right.

It reveals whether the surfaces flow naturally.

And it reveals whether a digital idea can actually survive the transition into a large physical object.

That transformation—from concept to something you can walk around and touch—is one of the most interesting parts of custom fabrication.
